Starting Over in Your 40s: How God Reawakened My Dreams In A New Season

Starting over in your 40s can feel overwhelming — like you’ve missed your chance or waited too long. But in 2016, long before I ever imagined this season, I shared on Instagram that I wanted to be a blogger. Not just as a cute hobby or a passing idea… but because something about it truly lit me up. I loved writing. I loved encouraging others. I loved creating meaningful things that made someone’s day a little brighter.

When Dreams Get Put on Hold

There wasn’t one big moment I gave up on those dreams. It happened slowly. Life got busy and then overwhelming. The kids needed me more. Daily tasks filled every minute. We were in the thick of deployments, and the fear of sending your husband off was heavy.

Then came 2020: the pandemic, another deployment, and a whole lot of uncertainty. Even my back burner dreams felt unreachable. My anxiety grew so bad, I lost weight. Looking back at pictures, I hardly recognized myself. I don’t know about you, but I truly believe no one walked out of that season completely unscathed.

And then… a surprise pregnancy at 38! I was so excited to share that miracle season, to encourage other moms going through the same things.

But then the exhaustion hit hard. My iron levels dropped, energy vanished. When my sweet boy was born, he was up every 45 minutes, ate every two hours, and barely slept. I went into survival mode. And somewhere along the way, my dreams slipped away. The desire to blog and encourage wasn’t just pushed aside… it got buried deep.

And that is where I have lived for the last 3.5 years. In survival mode. It was like I got in, and never got out.

God’s Timing Is Never Late

But then in May this year, I had a quiet moment with God. And He spoke a simple truth that stopped me:

“Now is the time. You’ve prayed for healing… now walk in it.”

I’d heard words like that before, but this time, I believed Him. I received it. And slowly, something inside me began to shift.

Day by day, I started choosing healing. I started remembering the dreams I thought were lost. I started trusting that God never forgot, even when I did.

And here’s what I realized:

It’s not too late… not with Him.

What If You’re Being Called to Begin Again?

Friend, maybe you’re right where I was.

Maybe you’ve been in survival mode for years.
Maybe your days are full of laundry, little ones, and wondering where you went.
Maybe you buried dreams because you thought the season had passed.

But listen closely today:

God does not forget. He is not finished.

Starting over in your 40s…or even your 50s or beyond…is not failure. It’s not foolish. It’s faithfulness when God says “Now.”

Your healing isn’t just for getting by… it’s for your calling.
The dreams He planted in you? They’re not wasted. They’ve been waiting for God’s green light.

Small Steps Still Count

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t need a perfect plan or the full picture. You just need one small step of obedience. One faithful “yes” to what God’s stirring in your heart. If God is whispering “Now is the time”… You can trust Him.

He’s not asking for hustle or performance.
He’s inviting you to walk with Him…into something new, something beautiful, something full of purpose.

Let’s Walk It Out Together

I don’t know exactly what this new season will look like… but I know I don’t want to miss it.

So I’m showing up. With obedience. With hope. With wide-open hands.

Starting over in your 40s may not look like you thought it would…but I believe it can be better because it’s happening in His perfect timing.

Let’s walk it out together, friend…one wildly faithful step at a time.

Stay wildly faithful.
